Quick facts for school districts
Cost:
Financially, school districts participate on a per-pupil, per-year basis.
District Enrollment:
Students in Second Chance remain on the district pupil count and are included in
the district calculations for enrollment.
Diploma:
Districts agree to provide graduating students with their district high school
diploma.
Transcript:
Districts are provided with a Second Chance transcript which evaluates students
according the basic academic areas in addition to workplace skills.
Transportation:
Students and parents are responsible for the transportation of the student to
the business location.
School Events and Functions:
Students are considered to be enrolled in their home high school and are awarded
all the rights and privileges of any student in the district with the
consideration that these events do not interfere with the hours of their Second
Chance commitment.
Hours of Instruction:
Students participate in classroom instruction for approximately two hours per
day. The remaining six hours consist of youth apprenticeship on the job training
and production work.
Program Length:
Students begin Second Chance in the fall of their junior year and attend
consecutively for 21 months, ending the program at the end of May of their
senior year.
Curriculum:
Curriculum is aligned to WI State Standards and consists of integrated
instruction in math, science, communications, social studies, and workplace
readiness, supported by contextual teaching and applied learning based upon the
employment environment.
