Business partners
“Safeguarding our future is more than noble;
it’s just good business.” - Dawn Tabat, COO, Generac Power Systems
The manufacturing/business community provides the resources necessary to
support each youth apprentice in “real world” experiences and education. These
resources form the foundation upon which the goal of earning a high school
diploma is built.
Second Chance instructors and students meet in
classrooms located at partner companies.
Businesses may act individually or participate in a combination with other
businesses within a close proximity, such as an industrial park setting. In a
combination situation, one business will serve as the “anchor” and provide
dedicated classroom space.
In addition to the classroom space, businesses will provide paid work
experience and instructional support for Second Chance students. Students will
rotate within and among the partner businesses. Rotations occur approximately
every 3 months within the businesses and provide both the work experience
component and the real world connection to the curriculum studied by the
apprentices. Businesses provide experts from their industry to support and
augment the instruction of particular portions of the curriculum.
Financially, businesses participate by sharing a portion of the budget for
Second Chance operations and payment of wages to students for a 40 hour work
week. Business partner contributions are tax-deductible, as Second Chance is
a registered not-for-profit organization.
